The traditional methods of classroom teaching are becoming far rarer with the uptake of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT’s) and the associated tools that go with these methods of learning. As education practices continue their advance into the digital world of applications, tools and mobile learning, immense amounts of data are being created and the ethics surrounding the creation, safety and potential use of this data require careful consideration. Big data is the term used to describe this large and often complex level of information (Sin & Muthu 2015). Careful consideration must be made for students who have English as a second language. Andreas Schleicher presents a great TED talk on how this data can be used in education.
